Ethereum $1,849 developers have announced the activation of a new test network called Hooli, following challenges faced during testing for the upcoming Pectra upgrade. The core developers plan to conduct a final trial on Hooli to overcome the issues encountered in previous test networks.
Hooli Test Network and Its Process
The newly established Hooli test network will be operational with the new version of the Pectra update on March 26, where it will be evaluated for performance and stability. Developers anticipate implementing the upgrade within approximately 30 days after the completion of the testing process.
The Pectra upgrade encompasses various code changes aimed at making the Ethereum network faster, more efficient, and user-friendly. With this update, smart contract features will be added to addresses, equipping user wallets with new functions, allowing them to pay transaction fees in different currencies.
Issues in Previous Test Networks
The Hooli test network was created following configuration errors and issues experienced on the Sepolia and Holesky networks. Prolonged outages on the Holesky network had hindered the proper execution of Pectra tests. Developers noted that each test network serves different purposes, with Hooli specifically emphasized for validator exit testing.
Tim Beiko, the representative coordinating developers at the Ethereum Foundation, highlighted the importance of the Hooli test network, stating, “Hooli test network is coming into play to complete the Pectra testing process.”
The new testing process represents critical stages in the integration of the Pectra upgrade into the main network. Following successful tests, Ethereum users are expected to begin utilizing the upgrade by the end of April or the beginning of May.
This update is viewed as a significant step in Ethereum’s technical roadmap, aiming to enhance the network’s competitiveness. Current challenges, such as the decline in ETH prices, leadership changes within the foundation, and increased competition from new blockchains, have amplified the need for Pectra.
The Ethereum community is optimistic that following a successful transition on the test network, the implementation of the upgrade on the main network will improve the network’s reliability and performance.
