Crypto Protocol Zilliqa Eyes Major Upgrade: Details

Blockchain protocol Zilliqa is eyeing a major transformation as it is nearing its much-anticipated upgrade Agate. The recent launch of the Aventurine proto-mainnet aims to help developers, validators, and users prepare for the future of the network.

Aventurine is a strong bridge to ensure a smooth transition to Zilliqa 2.0. This development has generated excitement in the blockchain community, with anticipation for the mainnet launch.

Building the Foundation for Agate

The transition to Zilliqa 2.0, scheduled to be launched in 2024, was extended to allow thorough testing with Aventurine’s proto-mainnet. It is the last step before the Agate release brings Zilliqa 2.0 to life.

This model is geared to simulate the entire migration process, including importing transaction history and state data from the current Zilliqa mainnet. Also, to ensure that account balances, smart contracts, and decentralized apps (dApps) are accurately replicated for testing.

This process applies to Scilla and Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) platforms. When the mainnet fully launches, the current Zilliqa mainnet will switch to the new protocol. Stakeholders will move their stakes to active validators.

Zilliqa 2.0 will offer a simple staking portal to make this easier, allowing users to connect their EVM wallets and delegate stakes seamlessly.

A New Zilliqa Protocol, A New Era

Zilliqa 2.0 is not just an upgrade but a complete overhaul. It features a new architecture and a shift to a Proof-of-Stake consensus mechanism. The upgrade aims to improve scalability, security, and interoperability.

Migrating transaction history and state data from the old system to the new one is a massive task. Aventurine’s proto-mainnet is specifically designed to manage this process with accuracy. This would ensure a smooth and accurate transition to the new system.

This testing phase ensures that all stakeholders, including developers, validators, and everyday users, are fully prepared for the transition. The phase focuses on testing technology and empowering the community to adapt and excel in this new environment.

What Aventurine Brings to the Table

Aventurine is designed to offer developers a real-world environment to refine dApps and tackle interoperability issues. This would allow them to test transaction histories and smart contracts from the current mainnet to ensure optimal performance on Zilliqa 2.0.

For validators, the shift to a Proof-of-Stake consensus mechanism presents new opportunities and challenges. Aventurine provides a chance to fine-tune setups and explore staking contracts in preparation for securing the new mainnet.

Users also benefit from the proto-mainnet phase by getting familiar with the new staking system and the upcoming staking portal. Their first trial on Aventurine will make it easier to explore validators and manage stakes during the transition to Zilliqa 2.0.
