A crypto analyst, Michael van de Poppe, predicts that Ethereum (ETH) could surpass Bitcoin (BTC) in January 2025. This prediction is based on a key factor, which could trigger an “altcoin run” and attract more investments towards the Ethereum ecosystem.
Ethereum could surpass Bitcoin in January 2025
Michael van de Poppe recently expressed his optimism regarding the performance of Ethereum (ETH) compared to Bitcoin (BTC) in January 2025. According to him, Ethereum’s relative strength compared to Bitcoin could significantly increase. Currently, the ETH/BTC ratio is at 0.0356, but van de Poppe predicts that it could exceed 0.04 in January.
The last time this ratio reached 0.04 was on December 8, when Ethereum was trading just above the psychological level of $4,000. This forecast is based on the observation that ETH is showing signs of breaking out compared to BTC, which could attract more crypto investments towards ETH.
Impact on the altcoin market
Van de Poppe anticipates that this increase in Ethereum’s relative strength could lead to a consolidation of the Bitcoin price, while investment flows would head towards ETH. This could potentially trigger an “altcoin run” in the ETH ecosystem, where other crypto tokens based on Ethereum, such as Shiba Inu (SHIB) and Mantle (MNT), could also see their prices rise.
Furthermore, some analysts believe that exchange-traded funds (ETFs) based on Ethereum could also outperform those based on Bitcoin in 2025. Nate Geraci, president of ETF Store, stated that net flows into ETH ETFs are currently on track to match those of Gold ETFs, and he expects these flows to accelerate.
This perspective is shared by other crypto analysts who see ETH as an undervalued asset and anticipate an increase in its value over the long term.
