Binance Labs, the venture capital and incubation arm of Binance, has announced plans to rebrand and expand its operations to include secondary market operations.
As the firm moves toward 2025, it aims to expand its focus by continuing its commitment to supporting long-term, impactful projects in the blockchain and cryptocurrency ecosystem.
Binance Labs announced its 2024 investment activities in its year-end review, which included 46 deals across various sectors. These investments were evenly distributed between infrastructure and application-focused projects. Key highlights include:
14 projects from the BNB Chain-focused MVB program and the off-chain Labs Incubation program.
32 direct investments covering DeFi (10), AI (7), Bitcoin ecosystem (7), Restaking (4), Gaming (3), ZK technologies (2), RWAs (2), consumer applications (2), and other emerging sectors such as the Move ecosystem and decentralized science (DeSci).
The firm has built a diverse portfolio across major ecosystems such as Ethereum, Solana, and Ethereum Layer-2 networks, as well as emerging platforms such as Berachain, Monad, and Initia. Approximately 20% of these investments were made in projects within the BNB ecosystem.
Binance Labs is predicting a dynamic phase of growth and productivity as we move into 2025, known in Chinese astrology as the “Year of the Forest Snake.” The forest element symbolizes innovation, aligning with the company’s prediction of a year ripe for new developments.
The incoming pro-crypto Trump administration is expected to create a favorable regulatory environment that could attract more institutional interest and investment in the crypto space. Binance Labs sees this as an opportunity for the industry to mature further with a stronger foundation built on solid foundations.
The main areas of focus in 2025 will be:
- Crypto and Blockchain: Continue to invest in core infrastructure and application development.
- Artificial Intelligence (AI): Exploring the intersections between AI and blockchain technologies.
- Biotechnology: Identifying opportunities where blockchain and AI can innovate the biotechnology sector.
Binance Labs also predicts that underperforming sectors like gaming, zero-knowledge (ZK) technologies, and privacy solutions will see a resurgence as they transition from development to production. Trends like real-world assets (RWAs)/stablecoins and AI brokers are expected to continue their strong momentum, with huge untapped potential remaining in these areas, DeSci said.
