  • Burger King polls followers on launching “Burger Koin,” sparking crypto speculation among its community.
  • Burger King has accepted Bitcoin and Dogecoin in select locations, raising questions about a branded cryptocurrency.

Burger King has sparked speculation about launching its cryptocurrency after polling its social media followers about the idea of a “Burger Koin.” The popular fast-food chain previously dipped its toes into cryptocurrency by accepting Bitcoin in several countries.

While the reaction from its followers has been mixed, the possibility of a “crypto burger coin” is gaining attention.

The Poll That Ignited Crypto Buzz

On March 29, 2025, Burger King UK’s official X account posted a direct and simple question to its community: “Shall we make a crypto burger coin called Burger Koin?” The fast-food giant’s call for input quickly generated a flurry of responses, highlighting both excitement and skepticism among its followers.

Some users were enthusiastic about the idea, while others expressed concerns about the current state of the cryptocurrency market, particularly the prevalence of meme coins and scams.

Despite this mixed reaction, the poll reflects Burger King’s ongoing interest in cryptocurrency and digital trends. In 2023, the fast-food chain made headlines when its Paris branch began accepting Bitcoin as a payment method.

Since then, it has expanded Bitcoin acceptance to locations in the Netherlands, Germany, and Venezuela. The discussion about launching a branded cryptocurrency has further amplified these efforts.

Burger King’s Crypto History

While the company has not yet launched a cryptocurrency of its own, its foray into digital currencies has been gradual. In addition to accepting Bitcoin in select locations, Burger King has shown support for Dogecoin, particularly in its Brazilian branches.

Back in 2021, Burger King Brazil began accepting Dogecoin payments, a move that generated buzz in the Dogecoin community. However, this initiative was not expanded to the U.K., where Burger King continues to focus on other forms of digital payment.

In 2023, Burger King’s X account further engaged with the cryptocurrency community after a popular crypto trader shared news of its Bitcoin adoption in Paris. In response, the account playfully suggested, “We need DOGE,” fueling further excitement within the Dogecoin community.

As Burger King explores the idea of entering the crypto space, its primary competitor, McDonald’s, is already making strides in the metaverse. In Singapore, McDonald’s launched its “My Happy Place” metaverse, which allows users to create virtual burgers and participate in various activities through an immersive online experience. As reported by ETHNews, this partnership with Bandwagon Labs aims to engage customers in a more interactive and virtual environment.
