The Cardano blockchain and the legendary football club FC Barcelona have just officially announced a strategic partnership aimed at transforming the experience of supporters. This historic alliance between blockchain technology and one of the world’s largest football clubs promises to redefine fan engagement through innovative Web3 initiatives.
A historic partnership to redefine supporter engagement
The Cardano Foundation and FC Barcelona announced their collaboration on January 10, 2025, in Barcelona, in the presence of CEO Frederik Gregaard and the leaders of the Catalan club. This partnership is part of the Barça Vision program, the club’s Web3 initiative aimed at modernizing its interaction with supporters.
The alliance is based on strong common values: the FC Barcelona has over 150,000 Socios (members) and 1,200 peñas (supporter clubs) who actively participate in the club’s decisions, while Cardano stands out for its decentralized governance driven by its community.
The program includes three major axes: creating job opportunities for young supporters, developing training on blockchain technology, and establishing a rewards system including NFTs and ADA tokens.
The announcement of this partnership has had positive repercussions on the ADA price, which has risen by 4% to $0.95 within 24 hours following the announcement. This progression occurs amidst volatility, with the token having lost 11% of its value over the last week after reaching $1.07.
Despite these fluctuations, Cardano maintains its position as the 9th largest cryptocurrency globally, with a market capitalization of $33.5 billion. The recent performances of ADA, which surpassed the symbolic threshold of $1.20 in December 2024, reflect a positive momentum for the Cardano ecosystem.
