  • CZ’s “Pay to Reach” charges 0.2 BNB for direct messaging, managing the flood of messages, and encouraging more meaningful interactions.
  • The initiative enhances BNB’s utility while raising questions about commercializing communication channels in the crypto space.

Changpeng Zhao, better known as CZ, the former CEO of Binance, has rolled out a new feature called “Pay to Reach” that allows users to send direct messages to him for a fee.

The initiative, announced 18 days ago on Binance Square, will help CZ manage the huge number of messages he receives daily. This new system is intended to streamline communication by charging 0.2 BNB (roughly $125) for direct access to the Binance CEO.

The “Pay to Reach” feature operates on ReachMe.io, a platform that facilitates paid messaging interactions. Users can pay 0.2 BNB to ensure their message reaches CZ with a guaranteed response.

This change comes after CZ highlighted the challenges of dealing with a high volume of messages, many of which were brief or lacked major content. Initially, the message fee was set at 0.1 BNB, but CZ increased the cost to 0.2 BNB to better manage the influx of messages.

CZ mentioned that despite setting the fee at 0.1 BNB, he still received over 100 messages. By increasing the price to 0.2 BNB, he aims to reduce the message volume and encourage more meaningful exchanges.

This move further enhances Binance Coin’s (BNB) utility, including its day-to-day operations in the Binance ecosystem. Through “Pay to Reach,” BNB takes on a new use case, increasing its demand and encouraging more interaction within the crypto community. The platform has attracted over 100 crypto influencers, each setting their price range for messaging, typically between 0.01 to 0.2 BNB.

The Commercialization of Communication Channels

While monetizing direct communication is not entirely new, the launch of “Pay to Reach” has sparked discussion about the commercialization of previously free communication channels. Similar platforms, such as time.fun, are already operating in this space.

Despite this, CZ’s decision to implement such a system has raised questions about the future of online messaging and the financialization of interactions with high-profile individuals.

In addition to the paywall, CZ has posted specific guidelines for users to follow when sending messages. He has urged users to read these tips before messaging him, highlighting the need for clear and purposeful communication. “Please don’t message me after reading this point,” CZ cautioned, addressing the issue of server overload caused by unfiltered traffic.

A New Avenue for Crypto Interactions

The introduction of “Pay to Reach” reflects a general trend of monetizing influencer-fan interactions in the crypto community. It offers a structured channel for communication, potentially reducing spam and creating more meaningful exchanges. This change, which comes amidst other major events within the Binance ecosystem, points to the growing role of influencers in shaping the crypto market.

Although some users have expressed concern over the commercialization of messaging, others have praised the speed at which this feature went from concept to launch. As the “Pay to Reach” initiative grows, it will be interesting to see how it evolves within the broader context of online communication platforms and the crypto space.
