Drift, the on-chain trading platform powered by Solana, is set to launch its Season 2 airdrop, known as FUEL, in May 2025. This announcement, revealed via a post on X, follows a series of significant milestones reached by the platform in 2024.
In May of the previous year, Drift introduced its native token, DRIFT (DRIFT). A few months later, in July 2024, the platform announced its rewards program, FUEL. The forthcoming Season 2 airdrop of FUEL is intended to benefit all users of the decentralized trading platform. According to Drift, the FUEL initiative will align incentives and stimulate growth within the protocol.
The platform’s ambitious plans for 2025 center around the transformation of Drift into a Super Protocol. The strategy involves focusing on a host of areas including borrowing and lending, derivatives, prediction markets, automated market making, and wealth management.
The platform enjoyed considerable growth in 2024, spurred by the integration of real-world assets. A significant advancement was the support for Ondo. Drift also expanded its offerings with the addition of the USDe, PayPal USD, and Sky’s USDS stablecoins, and the introduction of liquid staking. The platform’s wealth management feature, Drift Earn, profited from the addition of vaults, with structured products created for trading and yield strategies contributing to the millions of dollars in total value locked within the protocol.
Crypto airdrops regained popularity in 2024, with some of the year’s most substantial token distributions reaping considerable rewards for early adopters. Hyperliquid, Starknet, and Pudgy Penguins were responsible for three of the year’s top airdrops. Notcoin, a tap-to-earn game based on the Open Network, and the Solana DEX protocol Jupiter also made a significant impact with their respective airdrops. Typically, users earn rewards by transferring assets to layer-2 networks, utilizing protocol features, and participating in protocol governance.
Looking ahead to 2025, several anticipated airdrops in the Solana (SOL) ecosystem are capturing the attention of crypto enthusiasts. These include Jupiter’s second round, Solayer, the second season of Sanctum, Sonic SVM, and DeBridge S2. There are also hopeful projections concerning potential airdrops from Berachain, Karak Network, Linea, Babylon, and a second round from Hyperliquid. These developments underline the dynamic nature of the crypto landscape and the exciting possibilities that lie ahead for Drift users and the wider community.
