Key Features of IOTA Rebased: A Leap Towards Decentralization

The IOTA Rebased upgrade marks a significant technological milestone for the blockchain platform. As announced by IOTA Africa on X, the upgrade focuses on decentralization, security, and scalability, features that were previously limited by IOTA’s earlier architecture, which relied on a coordinator node for network validation.

The introduction of the Move-based smart contracts enables greater flexibility for developers, allowing them to write more secure and scalable decentralized applications (dApps).

Another critical enhancement is the transition to a Delegated Proof-of-Stake (DPoS) model. This new consensus mechanism enables IOTA to process more transactions, ensuring higher throughput while maintaining security. As indicated earlier by ETHNews, the Rebased upgrade also shifts IOTA from a UTXO model to an object-based ledger, making the network more efficient and developer-friendly.

These improvements also include a new epoch-based minting system, where 767,000 IOTA tokens are minted per epoch, ensuring a sustainable and competitive token supply. In addition, the network introduces token staking and transaction fee-burning mechanisms that incentivize active participation and contribute to the ecosystem’s long-term security and sustainability.
