  • IOTA Africa is driving blockchain innovation with Rebased, empowering developers and enhancing adoption across Africa.
  • The IOTA Rebased upgrade introduces Move-based smart contracts and DPoS, boosting decentralization and scalability.

IOTA Africa has set its sights on driving blockchain innovation across the African continent with its latest advancements under the IOTA Rebased upgrade. Through consistent efforts and collaboration with IOTA, the initiative aims to revolutionize decentralized technology, focusing on scalability, security, and decentralization.

This push includes fostering a thriving blockchain community in Africa, creating opportunities for developers, and enhancing blockchain adoption through real-world applications.

The IOTA’s Rebased upgrade is introducing key features such as Move-based smart contracts, Delegated Proof-of-Stake (DPoS), and new tokenomics that will address blockchain scalability and security challenges.

Advancing Blockchain Adoption in Africa

IOTA Africa is committed to accelerating blockchain adoption across Africa, a region where decentralized technologies could significantly address issues like financial inclusion, cross-border payments, and supply chain management. The initiative focuses on creating an ecosystem that empowers developers and community members by promoting blockchain education, real-world use cases, and IRL (In Real Life) meetups.

IOTA Africa emphasized that collaboration with IOTA would accelerate the adoption of the IOTA Rebased platform in Africa. The goal is clear: to shape a future where IOTA thrives within the African blockchain landscape.

IOTA’s Rebased upgrade provides a framework to support Web3 innovations, decentralized finance (DeFi), and blockchain-powered applications. These developments offer significant promise for building more efficient, transparent, and scalable blockchain ecosystems across the continent.

Key Features of IOTA Rebased: A Leap Towards Decentralization

The IOTA Rebased upgrade marks a significant technological milestone for the blockchain platform. As announced by IOTA Africa on X, the upgrade focuses on decentralization, security, and scalability, features that were previously limited by IOTA’s earlier architecture, which relied on a coordinator node for network validation.

The introduction of the Move-based smart contracts enables greater flexibility for developers, allowing them to write more secure and scalable decentralized applications (dApps).

Another critical enhancement is the transition to a Delegated Proof-of-Stake (DPoS) model. This new consensus mechanism enables IOTA to process more transactions, ensuring higher throughput while maintaining security. As indicated earlier by ETHNews, the Rebased upgrade also shifts IOTA from a UTXO model to an object-based ledger, making the network more efficient and developer-friendly.

These improvements also include a new epoch-based minting system, where 767,000 IOTA tokens are minted per epoch, ensuring a sustainable and competitive token supply. In addition, the network introduces token staking and transaction fee-burning mechanisms that incentivize active participation and contribute to the ecosystem’s long-term security and sustainability.

Building a Decentralized, Scalable Ecosystem for Developers

IOTA Africa’s focus is clear: build a decentralized, permissionless blockchain ecosystem that supports developers, researchers, and contributors in their blockchain journeys. As stated in recent threads by IOTA Africa, the initiative offers various opportunities for builders, developers, and content creators to engage with the network.

As outlined in our recent blog post, the primary objective is to foster a thriving ecosystem that supports developers with both MoveVM and Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) compatibility, allowing for seamless integration of IOTA into the existing blockchain infrastructure.

Furthermore, IOTA Africa is focused on empowering the next generation of blockchain developers by providing access to resources, educational programs, and opportunities for hands-on experience in the blockchain space.

IOTA Africa’s collaboration with the Sui Network further enhances its vision of decentralization and brings additional opportunities for innovation. This partnership, alongside IOTA’s technological upgrades, is expected to strengthen IOTA’s position as a leading platform for building real-world blockchain solutions in Africa.
