MicroStrategy Amplifies Bitcoin Holdings Significantly

MicroStrategy’s co-founder has disclosed the company’s bold Bitcoin purchases for 2024, revealing substantial financial gains from its investments last year. The software firm has shown a remarkable commitment to increasing its Bitcoin portfolio.

How Much Bitcoin Did MicroStrategy Acquire?

Throughout 2024, MicroStrategy invested $22.07 billion to acquire 258,320 BTC at an average rate of $85,450 per coin. This strategic investment led to a 74.3% return on Bitcoin last year, underscoring the effectiveness of their approach.

What Are the Implications of Institutional Purchases?

Experts indicate that institutional entities are ramping up their Bitcoin acquisitions. Ryan Rasmussen from Bitwise reports that the number of institutional Bitcoin holdings surged from 262,635 BTC in late 2023 to 321,224 BTC by mid-2024, reflecting a significant uptick in demand.

  • MicroStrategy began 2024 with 189,150 BTC and increased its holdings by 140,630 BTC.
  • Projected value creation for shareholders could reach $14.06 billion annually if Bitcoin hits $100,000.
  • Institutional purchases could propel Bitcoin prices to potentially $200,000 or even $500,000 with a Strategic Bitcoin Reserve.

Towards the end of the year, MicroStrategy also announced plans to invest an additional $2 billion in Bitcoin, recently acquiring 1,070 BTC for $101 million. There’s a notable trend among other companies, such as KULR, which are also building Bitcoin treasuries, reflecting a broader institutional embrace of digital assets as a crucial investment avenue.
