A new partnership between Ripple and Chipper will make sending money across Africa easier than ever.

On March 27th, both companies announced their partnership to improve cross-border transactions within Africa. Chipper Cash is a popular payment service provider within Africa. And following the partnership, it will integrate Ripple Payments into its systems. This would make it easier for users to send and receive funds faster and cheaper.

Ripple’s infrastructure will help Chipper Cash cut down transaction times to just a few seconds, enabling payments to be completed within minutes. This will be a huge improvement from regular banking systems.

Ripple has focused on improving payment gaps within Africa. The company’s Managing Director for the Middle East and Africa, Reece Merrick, emphasized that more businesses and consumers in Africa are recognizing blockchain’s potential to revolutionize finance.

This isn’t Ripple’s first move in Africa. In 2023, the company partnered with Onafriq to process payments between 27 African countries. The new deal with Chipper Cash further strengthens Ripple’s presence in the continent’s growing digital payments industry.

Why This Matters

Africa is one of the fastest-growing regions for crypto and blockchain adoption, particularly in remittances. Many people depend on international money transfers for daily expenses, but traditional systems are slow and expensive.

Plus, this partnership also taps into Africa’s crypto-savvy youth. Chainalysis has often ranked Africa as one of the nations with the highest crypto growth. Additionally, multiple reports state that stablecoins now account for nearly half of all crypto transactions in Sub-Saharan Africa.

As the demand for faster and more affordable financial services increases, blockchain-based solutions like Ripple are gaining traction. Chipper Cash’s CEO, Ham Serunjogi, highlighted that crypto-enabled payments can boost financial inclusion, open up global markets, and empower individuals and businesses across Africa.
