While whales generally make headlines with their buying and selling, one whale was talked about with its hacking.
According to PeckShieldAlert’s post, the unlucky whale was attacked and lost a total of $55 million.
Accordingly, a Maker Vault user lost 55 million DAI in a phishing attack.
Security firm CertiK noted that the attacker likely gained access to the whale’s account using Inferno Drainer, a phishing tool that lures victims using fake websites or emails representing legitimate exchanges or DeFi protocols and then steals the user’s private information.
A crypto whale signed a transaction that changed the ownership of 55.47 million DAI on the decentralized finance (DeFi) protocol Maker. Due to the signed transaction, 55.47 million DAI was transferred to the address set by the attacker.
The whale later realized its mistake and tried to pull in the DAIs, but failed because the DAIs were passed to the attacker’s specified address.
The attacker then converted 27.4 million DAI to 10.82 Etheruem. After that, with the second transaction, the attacker exchanged 1.8 billion DAI for 706.5 ETH and transferred 19.4 ETH to a new address.
