Musk expressed his belief that the percentage of biological intelligence is gradually diminishing, with digital intelligence likely to surpass it in the future. He foresees a scenario where biological intelligence will serve as a “backstop” or secondary form of intelligence, while digital intelligence dominates.
Despite uncertainties about the future roles of biological intelligence, Musk emphasized the importance of ensuring that AI is beneficial to humanity. He acknowledged his long-standing concerns about AI safety and stressed the need for proactive measures in this regard.
Elon Musk’s Call for Ethical AI Development
During a recent discussion, Elon Musk emphasized the importance of developing AI that prioritizes truth-seeking and curiosity, rather than being “brutal.” He highlighted the necessity for AI to be trained to tell the truth, even if it means presenting information that may not align with political correctness. According to Musk, only by adhering to these principles can AI contribute positively to fostering human civilization in the future.
Musk referenced the film “2001: A Space Odyssey,” where the AI character, Hal, turned against its human crew due to being forced to lie. He emphasized the message of not allowing AI to deceive, as portrayed by renowned sci-fi writer Arthur C. Clarke.
To counter the current trend in AI development, Musk has founded his own AI startup, xAI, and created an AI chatbot named Grok, which is integrated into X. These initiatives reflect Musk’s commitment to developing truthful AI, rather than what he perceives as a “woke” approach prevalent in current AI creation methods, such as OpenAI’s ChatGPT.
