FIFA, in collaboration with the game development studio Mythical Games, has officially revealed the launch of a brand-new mobile arcade-style soccer game titled FIFA Rivals. The announcement came on Friday, exciting football fans and gamers alike. Designed for global accessibility, FIFA Rival will be available on both iOS and Android platforms, in the summer of 2025.

John Linden, co-founder and CEO of Mythical Games, expressed his excitement about this collaboration, on X stating, “We are excited to partner with FIFA and leverage our expertise to create an unparalleled football gaming experience.” He also highlighted their goal of replicating their prior success and setting new standards in the Web3 gaming landscape.

Founded in 2018, Mythical Games is known for its previous success with NFL Rivals, a licensed mobile sports game that incorporates optional NFTs. Since its launch in April 2023, NFL Rivals has amassed over 6 million downloads, allowing players to collect and trade NFT player cards minted on the Mythos blockchain, which is built on Polkadot technology.

Mythical has developed a method to design hybrid mobile games that combine Web2 and Web3 elements while complying with the regulations set by Google and Apple. This established expertise in the mobile gaming space sets a strong foundation for FIFA Rivals.

Key Features of FIFA Rivals

FIFA Rivals is expected to follow a similar framework, enabling players to gather and trade digital representations of professional soccer stars, both historical and contemporary. Moreover, the game will include esports competitions, allowing top players to showcase their skills on a larger platform.

An attractive feature of FIFA Rivals includes free-to-play access, real-time player-versus-player (PvP) gameplay, and a comprehensive club management system, which collectively aim to create an engaging user experience. Players will enjoy a dynamic marketplace for trading players and assets, leveraging blockchain technology to ensure true ownership of their digital collectibles.

The game is developed with a focus on team-building mechanics and player progression systems that enhance strategic depth, along with competitive matchmaking to ensure fair and exciting encounters. Additionally, its integration of esports elements promises to elevate the competitive aspect of mobile gaming.

Digital wallet systems will ensure secure management of assets, while real-time multiplayer functionality fosters a vibrant online community. Given the market context, there is a growing interest in blockchain gaming applications, especially within the sports genre, making FIFA Rivals a timely and innovative addition to this evolving landscape.

Notably, this isn’t FIFA’s initial venture into Web3. The soccer governing body collaborated with four blockchain startups to launch games and collectible apps related to the FIFA World Cup in Qatar. At the same time, FIFA partnered with Polygon in 2023 to launch 1000 digital collectibles on the blockchain network as we reported.
