Romania has recently launched a new online platform for trading NFTs (non-fungible tokens), which is meant for use by institutions. This is the first time Romania has made a move into the world of Web3 technology. NFTs are unique digital assets that can be bought and sold, and are often used in the art world.
Romania is introducing Web3 technology in the country, and the first step is the launch of a new NFT trading platform called ICI D|Services. The platform is being created by the National Institute for Research and Development in Informatics (ICI Bucharest) and will be used for trading NFTs.
The new NFT trading platform, ICI D|Services, will be launched on April 26 and will serve as a connection between institutions and users in the private and public sectors. The main purpose of the platform is to provide a marketplace for buying and selling NFTs. Both individuals and institutions will be able to create, manage, and trade their own NFTs on the platform.
To kick off the launch of the new NFT trading platform, ICI D|Services, five special collections of NFTs have been created in partnership with famous Romanian sportspeople, organizations, and institutions. These include the Romanian Olympic and Sports Committee, swimming world record holder David Popovici, news agency Agerpres, national philately organization Romfilatelia, and the Central University Library in Bucharest.
Paul Niculescu-Mizil Gheorghe, who coordinates the blockchain laboratory at ICI Bucharest, has talked about the country’s plans to use Web3 technology. After spending five years studying and developing new ideas, ICI Bucharest is now actively looking into blockchain technology and how it can be used with Web3.
He said, using blockchain technology can make institutions more efficient and help them manage digital assets, increase transparency, and improve security in many different areas. This includes education, healthcare, transportation, land registration, and supply chain management.
Gheorghe also talked about the growing importance of high-value NFTs in recent years. Despite being used in many different ways, NFTs are unique and rare, which makes them valuable. Gheorghe believes that even national institutions like ICI Bucharest could benefit from using these high-value assets.
Initiative Supported by Government Agencies: As someone who works with both the government and the institution’s efforts, Gheorghe is happy that the Romanian government is supporting the use of Web3 technology in the country. He has said that both the Romanian Ministry of Research, Innovation, and Digitalization, and the Secretariat-General are fully supportive of the new NFT marketplace.
He stated: The institute aims to connect younger generations with the values of public institutions and create a comfortable space for digital interactions.
Romania has been exploring crypto and blockchain technology since 2020, but they started working on the NFT marketplace more recently. ICI Bucharest first proposed the idea in late 2021, and later partnered with MultiversX around mid-2022 to develop the platform.
