The Game of The Year expected contenders revealed with some surprising snubs

The Game Awards nominees were unveiled today on November 18th across 29 categories including the most anticipated category of Game of The Year.

This year marks the 10 anniversary of these prestigious awards for gaming titles. Geoff Keighley took to the stage at Peacock Theater in LA to unveil the anticipated reveal nominees for “Oscars for games”.

Some GOTY nominees were expected, while others were surprisingly snubbed

Thee 6 games nominated for the Game of The Year category are Astro Bot, Balatro, Black Myth: Wukong, Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, and Metaphor Refantazio.

While these game titles were expected under this category, others were snubbed to land a nomination for it.

Helldivers 2 became a popular game and proved that Sony can also make a hit out of a live service game.

Secondly, Silent Hill 2 Remake which did receive several other nominations like Best Narrative and Best Score couldn’t get into the GOTY nomination. This might be a shock to the fans who were rooting for this title. Some are even complaining about a DLC replacing the acclaimed classic horror remake.

Furthermore, there was discussion for Dragon Age: The Veilguard to be pushed by journalists for this category, but it did not.

PlayStation got the most nominations in The Game Awards

Nintendo’s game The Legend of Zelda: Echoes Wisdom also did not make up to the most prestigious category as well. The top three publishers with the most nominated games are PlayStation with 16 games, Square Enix, and Xbox with 12 games.

Even though these titles were not nominated for the GOTY category, they were put under the nominations of multiple other categories.

Fans can find out about the other categories and start their voting on the Game Awards official website. On December 12, the 2024 winners will be announced.
