The Open Network (TON), closely linked with Telegram, has experienced a turbulent 24 hours, marked by two significant outages that left the network offline twice within a short span. The first incident occurred on Tuesday, followed by a second disruption on Wednesday, both of which were attributed to an overwhelming load from DOGS token minting activities.
As of Thursday morning, the TON network has been restored to full functionality.
TON Network Restored
The team emphasized that no user assets were at risk during these interruptions. Additionally, an urgent notice was issued on X, urging mainnet validators to promptly update their nodes and restart operations.

According to the Tonscan block explorer, the last blocks before the second outage were recorded at 16:23 UTC, indicating a downtime of just over four hours. Despite the networkās efforts to mitigate the issue, the TON token saw minimal impact, with a slight dip of 0.99% over four hours and a 4% decrease over 24 hours, as per CoinDesk data.
DOGS Token Minting
The disruptions have been linked to the heavy load associated with DOGS token minting, a situation that TON initially identified as the cause of the first outage. Observers and the TON team both confirmed that the DOGS airdrop, part of the Ton Foundationās initiative to raise awareness about the controversial arrest of Telegram CEO Pavel Durov, contributed to the networkās instability.
This series of outages comes at a delicate time for TON, especially as the network is closely associated with Telegram, despite being legally distinct entities.

Legal Troubles for Durov
The outages also coincided with legal troubles for Durov, who was recently indicted in a French court on charges related to enabling illicit transactions and failing to cooperate with authorities. As of Wednesday, Durov was out on bail.Ā
Interestingly, Toncoin, the native token of the TON protocol, has seen an 8% increase following the news of the networkās recovery. However, the token still remains below its value prior to Durovās arrest.
