Trump to Debate Harris About Bitcoin: Details Inside

Donald Trump

Pro-Bitcoin presidential candidate Donald Trump has agreed to debate Vice President Kamala Harris just after she secured the Democratic nomination. Initially, Trump had declined the offer multiple times.

In a striking political development, the Republican nominee has changed his stance. This announcement came late Friday via a post on Truth Social, Trump’s social media platform. The timing of this acceptance is significant as it coincides with Harris’s recent Democratic nomination.

Trump and Harris Set to Debate About Bitcoin

The debate between pro-Bitcoin presidential candidate Donald Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris is scheduled for September 4, 2024, and will be hosted by Fox News. “Rules will be similar to the rules of my debate with Sleepy Joe, who has been treated horribly by his party, but with a full arena audience,” Trump stated, referencing President Joe Biden, who withdrew from the election bid in July.

Initially, Trump had declined the debate offer multiple times. He briefly removed his initial post about the debate before reposting it, with the only change being the deletion of his proposal for a major town hall event on the same date. Trump suggested the town hall in case Harris was “unwilling or unable” to participate in the debate.

The decision follows Kamala Harris’s Democratic nomination after President Biden withdrew from the race on July 21 and endorsed her. Harris responded positively to the debate proposal from Fox News last month, expressing her readiness to participate.

Biden’s withdrawal and endorsement of Harris shifted the dynamics within the Democratic Party. Initially, Trump dismissed the idea of debating Harris, citing her lack of official candidacy and the absence of an endorsement from former President Barack Obama. However, Obama endorsed Harris shortly after, and she secured the necessary delegate votes on Friday.

Betting markets have also seen a shift. According to Polymarket, Donald Trump’s election win odds have dropped to 53% from a record high of 71% last month, while Kamala Harris’s win odds have jumped to 44%, much higher than Biden’s 15% at the time of his withdrawal from the race.

Trump Initially Dismisses Debate with Kamala Harris, Questions Its Necessity

On Friday, Donald Trump initially dismissed the idea of debating Vice President Kamala Harris, despite significant public interest. Trump cited recent poll results as his reason for reluctance, suggesting that a debate might not be necessary given his strong poll numbers.

In a Fox Business Network interview, Trump expressed a mixed stance on the debate, saying, “Well, I want to,” but quickly questioned the need, asking, “Why should I do a debate?” He noted that the public is already well-acquainted with both himself and Harris, implying that a debate might not add much value.

Currently, Trump holds a narrow 1.1% lead over Harris in poll data from 97 surveys. His recent favorable comments about cryptocurrency have also contributed to a boost in his popularity.
