US Government Moves $300 Million Worth of BTC From Coinbase

The US government transferred more than $297 million worth of bitcoin (BTC) that was seized from the Silk Road hacker back in March.

In March, the total amount seized from the hacker was valued at over $1 billion, which is equivalent to 49,000 bitcoins. With the current price of BTC surpassing $30,000, these assets would be worth approximately $1.5 billion.

 

Additionally, the US government transferred 9,825 bitcoins to various addresses, which were valued at $298.7 million at the time. Out of this total, 1,625 coins were moved to two new addresses, while the remaining 8,200 tokens were divided among eight large wallets. The transfer was done through 101 transactions, with most transactions involving 79.2 bitcoins.

Based on on-chain data, the whale addresses had been inactive for the last two years. It’s worth mentioning that 9,825 coins were held in Coinbase, while the remaining 39,175 bitcoins were transferred to new addresses.

As the BTC price experienced a 1.3% decrease in the past 24 hours, reaching a high of $30,959 during the day, it is currently trading at approximately $30,400. However, the trading volume for Bitcoin in the last 24 hours saw a significant increase, reaching $14.5 billion, which marks a rise of 22%.
