In a compelling thread on X (formerly Twitter) last night, Max Avery detailed Ripple’s ambitious plans for 2025, outlining how the company aims to revolutionize the digital asset landscape through the XRP Ledger.
Ripple’s journey began with a focused mission to streamline cross-border payments. Today, the company has evolved into a trusted partner for major financial institutions worldwide, providing secure solutions for global payouts and digital asset custody. This expansion has transformed Ripple’s original vision into something far more comprehensive: creating the “internet of value” – a connected network where assets can move seamlessly, enabling real-time value exchange across the globe.
At the heart of this transformation lies the XRP Ledger (XRPL), specifically designed for financial applications. Unlike platforms focused on complex smart contracts, XRPL stands out for its cost-effective and secure transaction processing capabilities.
Strategic Developments and Partnerships
Ripple’s roadmap includes several key initiatives for 2025. The company plans to launch an Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) sidechain on XRPL, creating connections with over 50 blockchain networks. Upcoming XRPL upgrades will introduce multi-purpose tokens and decentralized exchange (DEX) permissions, making it particularly suitable for complex asset tokenization.
The acquisition of Metaco has significantly strengthened Ripple’s custody solutions, meeting the stringent security requirements of major banks. This strategic move has already attracted prominent financial institutions like BBVA and HSBC. Looking ahead to 2025, Ripple plans to expand Metaco’s capabilities with enhanced security features, improved blockchain compatibility, and advanced options for key management and regulatory compliance.

Ripple USD (RLUSD) plays a crucial role in trade settlement and liquidity management. As a compliance-focused asset, it integrates seamlessly with Ripple’s existing infrastructure. The company plans to expand RLUSD’s blockchain compatibility beyond Ethereum and XRPL, while building a robust partner network to facilitate wider stablecoin adoption in cross-border trade settlements.
The company’s Payments Direct service, launched in 2023, has simplified cross-border transactions across licensed regions including the United States, Brazil, and Dubai. By 2025, Ripple aims to expand its on- and off-ramp capabilities, creating an asset-agnostic payment system that bridges traditional fiat and digital currencies.
