The new version 5.5.0 fixes some problems, makes the fees work better, and gets ready for more useful features later on.
Proportional fee mechanism is a way to make sure the money paid for transactions is fair and matches how much it costs to process them. Zcash will soon have a feature that lets people spend their money even if their wallet is not completely synced up yet.
The people at ECC are mostly working on the Zcash protocol. They want to stop working in emergency mode and make sure Zcash works well and is easy to use.
At the time of writing, Zcash’s ZEC token was up 2.15%.
