Barbie Star’s Bitcoin Talk Evokes Ken Energy: Crypto Community Reacts

Barbie

Michael Saylor, Layah Heilpern, and Girl Gone Crypto were intrigued by Australian actress Margot Robbie’s Bitcoin insights.

Actress Margot Robbie, known for her lead role in the new Barbie movie, sparked a crypto community buzz by comparing Bitcoin discussions to Barbie’s companion, Ken.

In the past 24 hours, Twitter’s crypto community, including Michael Saylor from MicroStrategy and social media influencer Layah Heilpern, had a mixed reaction to Margot Robbie’s recent statement about Bitcoin during her June 22 interview with Fandango.

Robbie disclosed that while on set, whenever she heard her husband Tom Ackerley and television producer David Heymen discussing Bitcoin, she would humorously liken their behavior to that of Ken, the fictional co-star character in Barbie, played by Ryan Gosling.

“When David and Tom talked about Bitcoin, Gretta and I would tease them, saying they’re such Kens!”

Saylor coined Bitcoin as “Big Ken Energy,” and many other notable figures in the crypto industry chimed in on Robbie’s remark.

Crypto influencer Lea Thompson, also known as Girl Gone Crypto to her 225,000 Twitter followers, expressed her bullish sentiment after listening to Robbie’s thoughts on Bitcoin.

Layah Heilpern had a different take on Robbie’s comments, perceiving them as an insult towards men discussing Bitcoin.

Heilpern explained to her 621,400 Twitter followers on July 30 that Robbie seemed to imply male Bitcoin enthusiasts are “weak and pathetic.”

Dr. Mark Travers, lead psychologist at Awake Therapy, proposed that possessing Ken energy might indicate a selfless individual with adaptability to diverse circumstances.

Travers, in a July 13 Forbes report, highlighted how the character of Ken challenges conventional gender stereotypes.

Travers remarked, “In a universe revolving around Barbie, Ken’s role remains supportive, and he embraces it willingly.”

Travers further emphasized that Barbie takes precedence, relegating Ken to a one-dimensional and purely aesthetic position, often reminiscent of past portrayals of women in a humorous and satirical manner.

Robbie mentioned in the interview that defining what makes a Ken, or what exudes Ken energy, is difficult and subjective. She said, “It is not something you can define; it is just something you can sense.”

Steven Lubka, a managing director at Swan Bitcoin, viewed Robbie’s comment optimistically, seeing it as a positive aspect for the crypto community.

On July 29, Lubka shared with his 20,200 Twitter followers that “we are so back.”

Robbie’s remarks on Bitcoin were concise and impartial, coinciding with an era of ongoing legal actions against celebrities involved in crypto promotions.

Notably, NBA Miami Heat star Jimmy Butler recently sought removal from a $1 billion class-action lawsuit, which accuses cryptocurrency exchange Binance of promoting unregistered securities.

In a July 24 filing, Butler’s lawyers contended that the tweets he was featured in did not endorse the specified securities, thus could not have contributed to their promotion.

Binance CEO Changpeng “CZ” Zhao, along with Youtubers Ben Armstrong (BitBoy Crypto) and Graham Stephan, are likewise contesting similar allegations within the same lawsuit.
