El Salvador’s Ministry of Education has joined forces with Mi Primer Bitcoin (MPB) with the goal of incorporating Bitcoin education into schools by the year 2024.
Representatives from MPB, as reported by cointelegraph.com, have confirmed their collaboration with the Ministry of Education, with support from Bitcoin Beach. The Bitcoin education component will mainly rely on the Mi Primer Bitcoin program, which grants students a completion diploma.
The pilot program’s training is set to commence on September 7, 2023, with the assistance of Bitcoin Beach. This program, focused on Bitcoin, will be provided to 150 public school teachers from 75 different schools, equipping them with essential knowledge about Bitcoin.
The founder of MPB emphasized the importance of this initiative, noting that El Salvador’s pioneering adoption of Bitcoin as legal tender sets an example for the world. He stressed the significance of quality education to ensure that this example remains positive.
Following their initial training, these teachers will return to their respective schools to teach the curriculum developed by the Ministry of Education. If successful, the program aims to expand to all schools across the country in 2024.
Additional Details About Mi Primer Bitcoin
Mi Primer Bitcoin, founded two years ago, had a goal to educate an entire nation about Bitcoin, and this partnership represents a significant step toward achieving that objective. Representatives from Bitcoin Beach disclosed that over 25,000 students in El Salvador have already received Bitcoin education in classrooms.
While the current focus is on El Salvador, MPB’s ultimate mission is to expand Bitcoin education globally. Additionally, as reported by cointelegraph.com, MPB is in early discussions with two other Latin American governments interested in implementing a similar Bitcoin education model for their local students.
In September 2023, Bitcoin Cuba announced the opening of sign-ups for the first edition of its own Mi Primer Bitcoin program. Back in April 2023, the Government of El Salvador launched a Bitcoin and Lightning Network course in collaboration with Salvadoran University.
This advanced program, known as CUBO+, spanned several months and offered credit and potential placement opportunities to those who qualified for the inaugural Plan B fellowship.
