In a Spaces conversation with ARK Investment Management CEO Cathie Wood, Elon Musk shared his philosophy on investors’ role in business, stating that each investor added is an ally. He emphasized the importance of having more allies, reflecting his inclusive approach to investment.
Musk’s diverse portfolio includes companies like The Boring Co., Neuralink Corp., X (formerly Twitter), and xAI Corp. He has boasted about never causing financial losses to investors across all his companies and financing rounds, spanning more than 100.
In August 2023, Musk-backed Neuralink received a significant funding boost of $280 million from Peter Thiel’s Founders Fund. Thiel’s venture capital firm has also invested in other companies associated with Musk, such as SpaceX and The Boring Company.
Musk led a high-profile buyout of Twitter, attracting a group of 19 investors including Andreessen-Horowitz VC fund, Oracle founder Larry Ellison, Sequoia Capital, and Ron Baron. However, a year after the acquisition, investors reportedly experienced a decline in their stakes, amounting to approximately $4.6 billion, indicating a challenging outcome from the investment.
