Gina Carano, known for her role as Cara Dune in “The Mandalorian,” has sued Disney and Lucasfilm, alleging discrimination and wrongful termination. The lawsuit, announced on X, is said to be backed by billionaire Elon Musk.
Carano alleges she was dismissed from “The Mandalorian” in February 2021 for sharing her conservative opinions on social media, which supposedly went against the company’s rules and beliefs. She asserts that she faced a “bullying smear campaign” from her ex-employers and colleagues, who distorted her statements and labeled her as an “alt-right extremist.”

Carano’s Controversial Posts and Legal Action
Gina Carano’s contentious social media activity included comparing the US political climate to Nazi Germany, ridiculing mask-wearing during the pandemic, and casting doubt on the integrity of the 2020 presidential election. Additionally, she declined to display her pronouns in her X bio, which some fans perceived as transphobic.

Her attorney, Gene Schaerr, stated that Disney attempted to coerce Carano into conforming to their cultural and political perspectives, and when unsuccessful, terminated her. Carano seeks a court order for Lucasfilm to reinstate her or provide compensation of at least $75,000, along with damages for emotional distress and lost income.

Disney and Lucasfilm’s Position
As of now, Disney and Lucasfilm have not responded to the lawsuit. However, in February 2021, they issued a statement denouncing Carano’s social media posts as “abhorrent and unacceptable” and confirmed her termination. They also stated that her character would not be recast for future seasons of “The Mandalorian” or any other Star Wars projects.
